How important is the Bible in your life? I recognize that the first response many of us offer would be one of significance. But take some time today and really consider what role Scripture plays in your life each day. Psalm 119 is overrun with words that are emotionally charged and full of emotion and praise for God’s word. Not often do I find myself breaking into a 176 verse song related to the richness and fullness of Scripture.
Something radical took place in the author’s heart that was far greater than a mere commitment to read and obey words on a page. There was something dynamic taking place. As Scripture is read both the Spirit of God and the reader are in communication with one another. When we transition from seeing the Bible as ink on paper to living and active (Hebrews 4:12) something will take place in us (sanctification) and by design and desire…through us (mission). We will experience the lamp-path connection. We will start to store the word in our hearts. We will consider the Bible the most valuable treasure and purchase it at all costs.
Stop and consider this for a moment. The Bible is God’s word; given to us through the very breath of God (II Timothy 3:16). We all need to let that sink deeply into our hearts. Pause…do you believe that? The words inked on that fancy paper, bound between fine leather or fancy design are the words of a Creator to his creation.
Take the time today and engage the Bible…one word at a time.
- Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
- Psalm 119:11 “I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
